WHO ARE WE?

We are Berkelium 5419, Berkeley High School's robotics team. Founded in 2015, we compete in the international FIRST Robotics Competition, where we design and build industrial-sized robots from scratch in just six weeks to tackle that season's unique challenge. In 2023, we qualified for the FIRST Championship in Houston, competing on the world stage against the best teams globally.
But our impact extends far beyond competition. We're committed to accessibility - any Berkeley High student can join anytime with no applications, no cuts, and no fees. We've provided over $20,000 in scholarships over the past three years to ensure financial barriers never prevent participation.
We've also built a complete STEM pipeline across the Berkeley Unified School District. Elementary students explore engineering through our free VEX robotics workshops at Berkeley Public Libraries. Middle schoolers compete on FIRST Lego League teams at all three public middle schools, mentored weekly by our members. And underclassmen develop their skills on our JV team, Bearium 5499, before advancing to varsity. Through this pathway, we're ensuring every Berkeley student - from elementary through high school - has the opportunity to discover their passion for STEM.
