fabrication

Fabrication lies at the heart of the robot. Every tube, shaft, and plate is made in the shop by the dedicated team on countless awesome machines like CNC mills, lathes, and miter saws. If you enjoy machining, problem-solving, and working with your hands, you'd better bolt over to join Fab!

Design

The Design team is the glue of this robotics team. They design all blueprints and develop the rough (and final) draft of the robot. Additionally, they don't exclusively work in CAD. Systems and mechanical linkages tend to be expressed through physical models, drawings, etc. Members of the subteam are designers of the competing robot and the first step towards its creation. If you are interested in designing the robot from start to finish, Design is for you!

controls

The Controls subteam acts as the brain of our robot. They turn hardware into a high-performing machine by writing fast, reliable autonomous routines and enable precise scoring using physics, trigonometry, and computer vision. No prior coding experience is required to join. If you like solving problems, thinking logically, and testing out cool features on the robot, consider joining the Controls subteam!

Business

Business is focused on acquiring funding for the team. They do this in various ways, including reaching out to sponsors and businesses to collaborate with during the on and off season, applying for grants to support the program, and organizing events to raise donations from the community. Business's work is heavily group-oriented and collaboration-oriented. If the knowledge of persuasive writing and budgeting skills is interesting to you, business is a perfect fit!

   Strategy/scouting

Strategy and Scouting builds the app to collect data at competitions about other robots. They also run simulations to figure out what a robot should do in different situations and what is the best way to score the most points in a match.

Media

The media team focuses on documenting what happens in robotics through photos and videos, advertising the team to the world, and managing Berkelium's public image. Working on this website, photographing the team in the shop and at events, and managing social media posts are the team's focuses for this year!

Electrical

This subteam is responsible for wiring and working with the electronics of all of the team's robots. Members learn about various electrical systems, how to wire them, and how to use specific tools. These tools include soldering irons, multimeters, wiring crimpers, and other tools. The electrical subteam also promotes collaboration and teamwork, where they work to solve issues and learn together!

Outreach is a key part of the team. They run all community events and activities for the team. Planning activities such as elementary school visits, farmers market stands, library activities and much more!
